TechTown , a nonprofit business service organization is Detroit’s entrepreneurship hub that helps startup companies by providing mentorship and financial assistance. The grant from Techtown allowed SilvitX to achieve some of its primary goals.
SilvitX seeks approval from Wayne State University institutional review board ( IRB) for the use of implants coated with its proprietary SAT-18 in a subset of patients suffering from recurrent infections after implant surgery.
The application to IRB is based on compassionate/humanitarian use in patients with chronic osteomyelitis where all other options have failed to prevent the recurrence of the infection.

Use of SAT-18 in treatment of an invasive fungal infection with Fusarium in the eye of a patient post transplant. SAT-18 showed in-vitro antifungal activity against Fusarium. Application of SAT-18 for a compassionate use in the treatment of eye fungal infection was considered after the mold showed resistance to all antifungal agents. The study awaits IRB approval and is expected to start soon.
Upon Wayne State University Institutional Board Review approval, studies have been designed to use SAT-18 in patients with chronic osteomyelitis refractive to current treatments.
These specific group of patients suffer from recurrent bone infections after implantation of medullary nail implants. These studies will commence as soon as the regulatory agencies requirements are met.
